filmdirecting4women was formed to provide training and support to female film directors at the grassroots level. It aims to contribute to the worldwide movement which demands to see more films made by women.

Within the industry and within ourselves. If things continue as they are with women only succeeding in isolated cases, the film industry will continue to be unsure ground for all of us. Therefore at fd4w the success and opportunities we want for ourselves we also want for you. We want to help you build your confidence, learn in a non-intimidating environment and take your ideas and stories seriously in order that you can experience the joy of DIRECTING YOUR FILMS!

filmdirecting4women provides:

  • a variety of women-only film trainingĀ courses around the UK,
  • ongoing opportunities for the work of female directors to be seen including the annual FD4W International Film Festival,
  • and theĀ  winter’s monthly networking event The Female Lens,
  • FD4W Membership which offers numerous discounts and a support network,
  • a Production Fund through which we offer cash or in-kind help to selected projects with a female director,
  • opportunities to help out and receive training on film shoots,
  • Kit hire (coming soon),
  • Directing workshops for girls in schools and colleges,
  • Film related confidence-building workshops in women centres around the UK.
